Gardening in Gulf Hills: Tips, Hints,and Guide note Book

(Horticulture Project)


A notebook will be produced throughout the next two years with research and knowledge acquired by members. Each monthly meeting has a flower or gardening topic that a club member recommended be researched for inclusion in a notebook.  Researched materials will be shared at the club meetings by members and compiled into notebooks.  Members are encouraged to share materials collected for their individual notebooks as well.  The project will be completed and printed in 2016.


Re-Design Entrance to Gulf Hills (Landscaping Project)


Members will work in partnership with the Gulf Hills Home Owners Association, Gulf Hills Resort and Hotel, Gulf Hills Golf Association to enhance the entrance to our Gulf Hills neighborhood. To be completed by January 2015.

Objectives:

1.   Design a Xeriscape landscape

2.   Low Maintenance

3.   Use Native plants to our region of Mississippi

4.   Develop better community relations and pride in our neighborhood.


Gulf Hills Garden Club Website (Civic Participation)


Construct a continuing website for the use of members and the community.

To be completed by November 30, 2014.



Marge Albrycht Yard Award (Roadside Beautification Project)


Yard beautification award to be given to homeowners in Gulf Hills. who met the criteria set by our Garden Club.  In partnership with the Gulf Hills Home owners Association. It will be presented bi-monthly.  This award was named in honor of Marge Albrycht, a dedicated Gulf Hills home owner, garden club past president and secretary of the Home Owners Association.



Continuing Club Projects


Memorial Garden, Butterfly Garden and Azalea Triangle (Youth Project)


Members will work with employees from Jackson County Road Department and volunteers to groom the Azalea Triangle and maintain the daylily bed and the Knockout roses.  The club will continue to maintain and add to the Memorial Garden with special attention to achieving a year round color and healthy foundation plants.  We continue to monitor erosion control and the marsh grass project implemented by the Department of Marine Resources(DMR)in 2009-2010.  A video is available to the general public reflecting the overwhelming success of this joint project.


Pine and Ridge: (Historic Preservation Project)


The triangle at this intersection is being maintained by the Club, and members will be responsible for seasonal color.  This year the Club plans to measure the Olde Oak Tree and present and register it with the Scociete des Arbes.
